At Hill Farm Primary School we aim to offer the best possible start for your child by providing a welcoming, vibrant and friendly environment in our Nursery and Reception classes. Our high quality teaching and learning environments, both indoors and outdoors, offer well-structured, purposeful and challenging experiences that enable our children to become confident learners who are proud of their achievements and proud of who they are.
At Hill Farm our youngest children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This sets the standards for the learning, development and care of your child. The skills and concepts your child will learn in Nursery and Reception have been organised into three prime areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal and Social Development
and four specific areas of learning
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Our children learn and explore the EYFS curriculum through a balance of child led and adult led provision based around exciting and stimulating topics which include mini topics based around seasons and celebrations. Children are taught maths and phonics daily in class groups or in small groups and we follow the Read Write Inc program during our phonics sessions (https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/parents/).
Our children take their learning further through carefully resourced and planned continuous provision offered in areas such as the sand, water, construction, small world, writing, maths areas and the Reception children have a wide range of ‘chilli challenges’ that encourage our children to practise skills and deepen their learning. Much of the continuous provision and many of the ‘chilli challenges’ are based on play so please don’t be concerned if your child says that they have been playing all day – it just means that they have been lucky enough to have experienced staff who have made their learning fun and enjoyable!
Fabulous Friday in Nursery (18 images)
We’re going on a bear hunt 13.1.17 We had a Fabulous time today. We made bear masks and snowflakes and then we made a honey sandwich all by ourselves. We then performed ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ to our grown-ups, they were so proud of us and clapped really loud. Mrs Taylor, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Crawford
