How can you help your child with maths?

  • Spot numbers when you are out and about.
  • Use Numbots to secure number recognition and number bonds (all children have their own log in)
  • Use Times Tables Rock Stars to secure quick recall of times tables and related division facts (all children have their own log in)
  • Practise quick fire questions on a journey- number bonds for 10, 20 or times tables facts.
  • Practise reading the time on analogue and digital clocks.
  • Play shops using coins to count and find totals.
  • Pay for items in a shop using the correct coins or work out the change that you will get.
  • Use food packages to name shapes.
  • Compare and order objects by size, height or mass, using words to describe which is heavier, taller, smaller etc.
  •  Practise measuring and reading scales by doing some baking together, weighing out ingredients.
  • Practise division by sharing out objects such as sweets or by making equal groups of things.
  • Make a map and give directions to find some treasure.
  • Make a table or graph, for example, to show how many cars, buses, lorries, bikes pass by your house.
