At Hill Farm Primary School, we aim for all pupils to leave Hill Farm with a deep knowledge and understanding of their health and well-being, including their mental and physical health, so that they are able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society.

RHE education is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, happy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain. RHE prepares our children to be independent and confident, as well as being responsible citizens in a rapidly changing and diverse world.

At Hill Farm RHE is taught through the Jigsaw PSHE scheme which focuses on taught knowledge, social and emotional skills and use of vocabulary.

The RHE substantive knowledge children will learn is mapped in a spiral curriculum to ensure children build on prior learning and create schemas that are linked via knowledge concepts.

The six strands of RHE include:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Difference
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me

All teaching at Hill Farm is planned around our six principles of learning and teaching, which ensure every lesson is engaging and accessible to all pupils!  Pupils experience purposeful experiences that promote learning and where the needs of every child is met through effective adaptive teaching strategies.  As a Voice 21 Centre of Excellence, our curriculum has a strong oracy focus which provides pupils with regular opportunities to learn to talk; to learn through talk and to learn to listen. High expectations of oracy and vocabulary are embedded throughout our RHE curriculum. Children use their oracy skills to reflect on and self-assess their learning.

Our RHE lessons are evidenced in high quality class floor books. These floor books collate the learning for each stand providing children a way to reflect on past experiences.

The impact of our RHE curriculum is measured through continual assessments throughout each lesson against our RHE progression documents.
