Mental Health, Well-being and Welfare at Hill Farm

At Hill Farm:

We work together to create a culture in which all staff and pupils feel supported, accepted and valued.   The promotion of positive emotional health and wellbeing is at the heart of all school improvement decisions so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and feel successful in a supportive and caring workplace environment.

We believe that meeting the needs of pupil wellbeing is essential to support the association between good mental health and education engagement and academic achievement. It is recognised that it may result in improved attainment, attendance, reductions in behavioural problems, as well as happier, more confident and resilient children and young people.

‘Inclusion strategies have resulted in improved attainment, attendance, reductions in behavioural problems, as well as happier, more confident and resilient children and young people’ Challenge Partner review, Well-being Area of Excellence March 2023

The Mental Health, Well-being and Welfare team:

The Well-being Curriculum

At Hill Farm, we not only teach the Curriculum (knowledge, skills and concepts) but we also teach what we refer to as Wellbeing Curriculum to help learners understand their personal, social and emotional awareness. This raised awareness supports their mental wellness and strengthens their resilience.

We have Four Pillars of Wellbeing (Physical, Mental, Social and Personal Safety) that underpin our Wellbeing Curriculum.

 Inclusion Strategies

Mental Health in Schools Team

From September 2023, Hill Farm have partnered with the Mental Health in Schools Team. We have carried out a whole school Mental Health Audit- including the voice of staff, parents and carers and most importantly our children, receiving very positive results. In collaboration with school, they will also be delivering evidence-based interventions to support our children with mild to moderate mental health issues, staff training and parent workshops.

Well-being Wednesday

Every Wednesday, children will have the opportunity to discuss a Well-being statement through their Talk Point assemblies. Parents will receive a message through Arbour- promoting positive mental health, activities you can complete with your child at home and advice and support. Children will also have the opportunity to complete a Well-being activity in our Take a Break club in the Library or on the playground with their class LSA.
